over the last 12 years, kel mckeown, or kelpe, has carved himself a unique perch in the uk s electronic underground. across several full-lengths, eps and remix projects, his misfit electronica has managed to cohere a staggeringly deep spectrum of influence along the way. a natural son and heir to generation warp and the fathers of krautrock, his pioneering experiments in the early 00s also positioned him as one of many stylistic precursors to the arrival of la s now-sprawling beat scene. much like scene-savants prefuse 73 and dimlite, kelpe has remained an enormously respected stalwart of the fringes, always dabbling variously in sampleheavy beat-craft, oddball ambient, and more recently dancefloor-ready club grub.

archie pelago is a trio from brooklyn. greg plays cello, zack plays saxophone, and dan plays trumpet and works the knobs. the archie guys did one of the very first releases on mister saturday night records, and were very happy to have them back especially with such brilliant tunes. the a side, clammy customer, takes dozens of twists and turns, weaving in vocals by the always excellent gabriel garzon-montano, and the b side, madame suede nightshade, was apparently made with us in mind (check the initials). both sides are tried and tested on our dancefloor and cut at 45rpm for maximum oomph.

carl finlow could be regarded as one of the cornerstones of not only 20/20 vision, but also of british electronic music. his boundary pushing, electro-tinged productions under the random factor alias make for essential 20/20 listening, as does his work as 1/4 of 2020soundsystem. while this year has been about looking to the future of the label, we also felt it was important that we looked deep into our history and revisited one of our all time classic records: random factor broken mirror. on the a side carl has prepared a new revisted version for this release and this is accompanied by the original version from 1999. for the remixer we thought long and hard about someone we felt would be suitable. someone with pedigree in the electro scene, who would feel as passionate as we do about making this release something truly special. there was only really one person we wanted and luckily when we contacted legowelt he was a big fan of the original track and was super keen to get onboard the project. we hope you enjoy these two pioneers of the electro scene going head to head x

the mysterious talent antenna shows his tough, high impact house sound for his second release on the dutch pinkman label. first up, childhood is a mid tempo bit of elastic, groove driven house with whirring machines, raw synth patterns and filtered, muffled vocals. hi hats add an incendiary element of pressure but really this one is all about the pinging, rubbery drums that flail like drunken limbs. when i read my book is another purposeful offering riddled with melody and deep drums, slapping claps and lots of jittery cow bells, impish synth sounds and bass kills that brings a real sense of energy to proceedings. lastly, in august is a tripped out cut with skipping kick drums, celestial and heavenly, glassy melodies and skittish percussion that all glide along in alluring and off kilter fashion. this is house music, but not as you know it!

after seducing people around the world with the future classic into the sun on local talks oneoffs label and footwork anthems on don t believe released on studio barnhus it s now time to present daybreak or as tooli described the track the first time he heard it -it s like listening to deep burnt part 2-. perhaps it was the jetlag (tooli arrived in nyc the very same day henry sent it) or the fact that it s a straight forward deep track with lush strings and no fuzz included. it s up to you to decide. for remix duties label boss tooli was brave enough to have a go himself and recorded some piano chords and strings. on the flip is where the real magic happens - parkway records head honcho mark seven, considered by many as a dj s dj and mighty fine producer, delivers a remix that takes you on a journey and a half. it s deep, got tons of percussions and lures you into afro territory. if body and soul was still around this one would peak on a sunday afternoon.

new to the stay underground it pays gang, the eighth release on the label comes from none other than octo octa! you know him from his prolific run on 100% silk, and more recently for his ep on gerd jansons running back label at the top of the year. the man from brooklyn serves up 4 slices of that u.s. experimental house sound we love so much. on the a side, we have two versions of octo octas melancholic title track, requiem for the body. both as good as the other, its gonna be split for a lot of listeners on which is better. while both versions share certain elements, the second plays down the long keys of the first versions in favour of some stabby chord patterns. either way, proper 4 a.m. business!on the flip, we get a bit more ethereal with times two (loose version). simple yet effective, this one has a lot of atmosphere with those delayed vocal cuts over that late 80s bassline. closing out the record is when home. this one is a bit of a stomper at first until it brings in the lighter synth elements halfway through. someone, somewhere will have an epiphany listening to this track. if its you reading this, send in the results on the back of a postcard. all in all, another killer release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue

robsoul release number 22 for joss moog and mister consistent just keeps rolling out the essential house flavours. ego is his latest collection of work and features four new originals from the frenchman, each with the sample rich touch that we have come to love. the diva licks of the title track and ep opener ego set the perfect funky vibe for the rest of the ep. raw wave sees us riding one, as the beach vibes flow, the keys stab and the chocolatey bassline melts. whos that ramps things up with its jackin action, skittish snare and cowbell, but counters with its smooth keys. a perfect combination. joss closes the party with an ode to a hero. nothing blurred here, just the utmost of respect.

boogiefuturo presents another essential edits disc, ransacking the record boxes for those trippy disco oddities, crucial boogie joints and new-wave gems, to be given the once over by a trusted master of ceremonies. justin van der volgen has always delivered the goods, be it his edit work for labels like golf channel or eric duncans keep it cheap label, or his truly special dj sets, and on bf005, the brooklyn based maestro gets suitably hallucinatory with his brace of edits here. two vocal cuts, steeped in that decadent 80s production flair and bombastic groove, grandiose songs for heroes, saints & sinners, edited with love by one of the scenes most respected aficionados.
cheerful percussions and a nice bassline with a good vocal welcome us for the first track same named as the ep. the remix version is made by enzo siffredi, one of the stylerockets-newbies and a high talented dj and producer based in brighton. the remix version is more ticked and pushing. pitch pink is number 3 and colours up your life with a perfect sound arrangments. elmar strathe pitched a bit more and gave a great remix track to the ep.
